Tulum, Mexico is such an amazing location for a wedding in December! I was thrilled when Luz and Oscar hired me to join them at the gorgeous little beach resort of Om Tulum. The weather was perfect, the moon was full, the people were lovely.
I arrived a couple of days before the wedding to settle in and get to know the family and friends. Everyone was so warm and welcoming that I felt as much like a guest as I did a vendor. The first night we all ate and had drinks in the beach bar and I was able to capture some beautiful long exposure shots of the beach under the moonlight. One of these is below – you can see the stars and planets in the sky.
We spent the day before the wedding just playing at the beach all day and I was able to capture so many fun shots of Luz and Oscar just enjoying their family and friends.
The morning of the wedding, we all got up before dawn to shoot the group shots in the early morning light. It turned out to be a gorgeous morning.
The ceremony was an amazing traditional Mayan ritual complete with a Mayan Shaman, copal incense blessing as well as Mayan dancers with traditional Mayan drums. It was a quite a show for everyone, including Luz and Oscar.
During the reception dinner, we noticed that the moon was just rising and was huge and orange in the sky. We ran out to take photos on the beach as we watched the moon rise over the ocean.
The day after the wedding, we go up early (this was not easy to do) and drove out to a location where there are lots of Cenotes. Cenotes are openings in the ground where cave ceilings have collapsed to expose deep caverns holding crystal clear waters. These Cenotes are favorite places for scuba diving trips and sightseeing. We went there for a little different reason… Luz and Oscar lept from about 30 feet down into the Cenote in their wedding clothes!
This wedding was the highlight of my 2014 season. Thank you so much, Luz & Oscar!
great photos!
