Castello di Amorosa Proposals are Amazing!
I’ve had the honor of covertly photographing numerous Castello di Amorosa proposals in Calistoga wine country. This beautiful property, which narrowly escaped a fiery death last year, is an amazing castle with towers that can be rented for special occasions like popping the question. I hide out, capture the action, and then do a full engagement portrait session with the couple.
Ruben’s plan to propose…
Ruben and Tracey flew in from out of the country for a vacation in wine country. Ruben planned ahead and arranged a private tour of the winery which ended with his triumphant Castello di Amorosa proposal at the top of one of the castle towers. Ruben got down on bended knee and popped the question. You can see from the images that she said yes!

Knowing the best places to photograph at Castello di Amorosa
After photographing quite a few Castello di Amorosa proposals over the years, I’ve learned where the best locations are to take the couple for the engagement photos after the proposal. Below are photos in the keep just under the tower roof where Ruben proposed.
Below is one of my favorite spots under the tower. This is a stairway leading up the tower. It is very dark in there, but I like to carefully place a light behind the door to achieve this intimate portrait.
There are numerous little nooks tucked away on the property where I like to take couples photos. It’s fun to give them a wide variety of images to choose from.
Giant doors. Huge Knockers.
Outside of Castello di Amorosa there are these giant wooden door with huge knockers. They make such a great backdrop for couples portraits. Below, we see Tracey and Rubn posing and dancing for the camera. They were such a fun couple.
Many couples love to go into the actual vineyard for photos and the valley around Castello di Amorosa is breathtaking.
The grounds all around the castle are incredibly beautiful and give a real sense of medieval times. It feels like you’re walking onto a movie set.
Everyone loves to get a photo on the grand steps leading into the castle.
